Village Traders Association
Woolton
Village Traders Association was formed in 1982 by founder and chairman,
Dave Threlfall Snr, owner of Kards & Kandies, 5-7 Allerton Road, to
bring together the shopkeepers to improve trade in the village.
One of Dave's first ideas was for a
Village Christmas Tree, which, originally, was located outside of his
shop for several days, but, it was agreed that an even bigger tree would
be much more impressive! He mentioned the idea to his golfing friend who
thought it an excellent idea and agreed to donate a 40-foot Christmas
tree, and 28 small trees for the shops. Adorned with garlands and lights
the Village Christmas Tree, relocated to the Rev. Leicester street
lamp opposite, was switched on in 1982.
Dave Threlfall Snr retired in 1999 and
although the Traders Association is no
longer active, they have never been formally wound up.
