Garston & District Historical Society

Garston and District Historical Society was formed in January 1979, by founder member and former Chair, Bernard Brett, who stood down at their AGM on 4th June 2004, the year of their 25th 'Silver' anniversary. Roy Forshaw was elected unanimously as the new Chair. They study the history of Garston and its surrounding area and have a research room and archive where they store documents and objects donated by the general public and businesses.

They have produced two books and a video commercially and try to regularly print small articles "in house" on historical topics related to Garston.

Monthly meetings are usually held on the first Friday in the month at the Island Road Methodist Church (except during August) and organise outings and regular exhibitions as well as producing a periodic newsletter and regular publications for sale at a modest cost.

In the past they have undertaken photographic and measured surveys of buildings under threat and are at present endeavouring to have a professional archaeological survey undertaken of a 13th Century mill site as part of the developers obligation.
